Does your group have a special interest? Call the Scout Coordinator and a program will be developed to fit the need of the subject area your group is working to finish.

Special program cost varies according to the time and work involved in creating new program materials and activities. Approximate cost: $4.00-$8.00 per participant.

HISTORY PROGRAMS

Walk the Potawatomi Trail

Learn what road was once an Indian trail and learn about the culture of the Indians who once lived in our Northwest suburb. Discover the foods they ate, the food they farmed and hunted, the connection they had with nature, and their families.

Running Time: 1½ hours

Cost: $4.50 per participant

Arrowhead

Movin' West

Meets objectives for 2nd grade local history study. Learn about the life of early settlers as they make their way to the area known as the Northwest Territory. Participate in a pioneer game, visit the pioneer exhibit in the Mueller House and so some simple chores in the Log Cabin. Visit a re-creation of Miner's General Store.

Homesteadin' Days

Meets objectives for 2nd grade local history study. Learn about the life of early settlers. Discover the day to day chores and pastimes of children of long ago. The visit will include tours of the Museum's historic Victorian house as well as the Coach House and Log Cabin. If time allows there will be a school house lesson led by a schoolm'arm in period dress.

Root Beer Days

Meets objectives for local history study. Meet the Muller family and learn the story of "Pop" Muller's early start in long ago Dunton. Study artifact, view photos and hear the story of their life as told by their grand-daughter Elizabeth Banta Mueller. Visit their Victorian residence; Mueller House.

PIONEER PROGRAMS

Even the youngest visitors can learn something about early life in Arlington Heights. Students will have an opportunity to try out chores that children their age would have tackled, enjoy some of the pastimes of the day, and learn what life was like in the early 19th century schoolhouse.

Pioneer Day

Students will learn about pioneer life in a most direct manner. They will visit the log cabin and hear a first person account of life on the prairie, try their hand at chores (such as spinning, carding, and weaving) and enjoy some pioneer pastimes. Outdoor program.

Coloring Book and History Program

Use the Arlington Heights Historical Museum coloring book called; Arlington Heights, It's People an Progress to discover the history of Arlington Heights, Illinois. Learn the history behind the historic bicentennial quilt on the cover, learn about book writing and the publishing process, and get acquainted with our town founders and leaders.

Cemetery Study

Learn about our town's founders through family portraits and stories of life early in Arlington Heights' History. Discover the history of the Victorian cemetery and the art and architecture involved in headstones. Visit the local cemetery for a close look at this quiet community, rich in history.
