"If I Had A Hammer" | Girl Scout | Storytelling


 

"IF I HAD A HAMMER" PROGRAMS

 

Toolbox Class

A program designed to introduce young builders to tool safety; our historic blacksmith and carpentry shops from the late 1800's and various tools. Each participant builds a toolbox to take home.

Hammer and Nails

Age Range: 3rd grade and older, no younger siblings
Running Time: 2½ hours, 2 part class

Cost: $16.50 per participant
(includes all materials) (subject to change)
Groups over 10 will be split for assembly portion
Minimum 4, Maximum 32

Part 1: 1 hour session includes tour of historic coach house and tool safety.

Part 2: 1½ hour session to build toolboxes.

 

Safety and Tools Workshop

Identify different tools and functions.
Discuss tool safety and use of a hammer.
Compare old and new tools. Build a 2 or 3 step project.

Toolbox, saw, and toolbelt.

Age Range: 1st2nd grades
Running Time: 1½ hour session

Cost: $13.00 per participant
Minimum 5, Maximum 8

 
     

Old Fashioned Games Workshop

How did kids play long ago? Come to this workshop, learn some games, and play with toys from the past century

Younger visitors: Kindergarten - 5th grade
Class length: 90 minutes
Cost: $5.00 per participant

   

This workshop also includes a visit to the historic Victorian house at the museum.

 

Old Fashioned Chores Workshop

How did people long ago get all their work done? Try hour hand at jobs children tackled long ago and try some new fangled machines. Visit our Log Cabin.

Running Time: 1 hour
Cost: $4.75 per participant

Toys and Dolls Workshop

Children and toys are a natural match. Visit our doll exhibit located in the historic Arts and Crafts Home. Play with toys from the past century. Make a simple toy to take home.

Running Time: 90 minutes
Cost: $5.50 per participant

GIRL SCOUT PROGRAMS

 

Juliette Low Programs

Daisy's Chicago Heritage

A try-it and badge for Brownies and Juniors that helps Girl Scouts learn all about Juliette Low, the founder of Girl Scouts.

Brownie Program:

Learn about her family life, try some of her favorite past times. Find out how she started a group just for girls. Learn how she was named Daisy and hew she celebrated her birthday. Try the treat she like to eat and hear stories. Visit the Log Cabin.

Birthday Cake, Presents and Balloons

Available October through March
Class length: 1½ hours
Cost: $5.00 per participant
Minimum 6, Maximum 30
Groups over 12 members will be split into smaller group sizes.

 

Junior Program:

In addition to the activities mentioned above, Juniors will visit Muller House (historic Victorian home), learn some local lore and view a mini-exhibit of Girl Scout memorabilia.

Available October through March
Class length: 2 hours
Cost: $5.50 per participant
Minimum 6, Maximum 30
Groups over 12 members will be split into smaller group sizes.

 

Storytelling Programs

The museum is able to coordinate a visit from an area storyteller to your site or at our museum.
