Class of 2010
 
Matt Fink has been a resident of Arlington Heights for the past nine years. Matt currently serves as a Vice President with The Peoples' Bank of Arlington Heights which he helped to start in 1999. Matt is involved in the Arlington Heights Chamber of Commerce and currently serves as Treasurer of the Downtown Business Association of Arlington Heights. Matt values the history of the Village and the services provided by the Society to learn about that history. He especially appreciates the value of local, historical documents and their accessibility through the Digital Past website after discovering many unique documents about his former Recreation Park residence. Matt would like to increase awareness of the Society's offerings and events in the community in order to build on the Society's past success.
 
Nancy Siria has been a resident of Arlington Heights for 29 years and is a retired teacher having taught in Des Plaines for 30 years. Nancy is an active member of the Society having been a tour guide for 17 years, served on the board for 8 years, and serves on numerous Society committees. For the past 7 years Nancy has worked for the Park District guiding school groups through the Museum complex. She hopes to see the museum grow and continue to enrich the community.
 
Michael Singer has been a resident of Arlington Heights for over 20 years. He is a principal in the firm of Michael J. Singer and Company, P.C., which he founded in 1970. Michael attended Roosevelt University, where he completed several graduate level accounting courses. He has worked in the field of accounting for over 38 years, was the controller of a medium sized retailer for two years and in public accounting for the remainder of his years. He has been a member of several senior committees of the Illinois CPA Society and is currently a member of the Tax Executive Committee of the Society. He is an active member of the O'Hare Chapter of the Illinois CPA Society, of which he is currently the Legislative Committee Chair and has been a past president for three yearly terms. Michael serves as the Society's Treasurer. He has offered alternative financial reports and suggestions to lower operating costs to the Society.
 
Lynne Gillis has been a resident of Arlington Heights for the past 12 years, after having lived in Palatine for most of her childhood and adult years. A former Vice President for comScore, Inc. in Chicago (marketing research and consulting firm), Lynne recently left Corporate America to establish her own interior decorating firm, Nesting Instincts. Lynne has been a member of the Arlington Heights Junior Woman's Club, and has volunteered for a variety of organizations, including the Lutheran Home (where she does pet therapy visits with the residents and her 3 dogs), and Children's Memorial Hospital. Lynne hopes to raise awareness of the village's rich historical and cultural foundations so that those who reside in the community not only have a greater appreciation for all that the village offers, but will also make a point to take advantage of the additional opportunities to learn more about our history that the Society offers.
 
Class of 2009
 
Joan Brandt has lived in Arlington Heights for her entire life since 1935. Her grandfather owned a farm at Algonquin and Old Wilke Road where her mother grew up and she has seen tremendous change in our community. Joan worked for 17 years at Friendship Village in Schaumburg serving most of the time as Activities Director in the independent living area; she also worked at Carson's. Her interests include ballroom dancing, baking, traveling, golf and aerobics at the Senior Center. Joan serves as a tour guide at the Museum, works special events such as the House Walk, Teas, Irish Fest and she has shared her baking talents for our bake sales. She serves on the Board to see that past community members are given credit for their contributions to our history. She would like to bring new ideas for our events from her past experiences as an activities director as well as meet and interview citizens to record their memories of Arlington Hteights and the Northwest Suburbs.
 
Carol Frieburg has lived in Arlington Heights for 49 years and has been actively involved with the Society since the 1970's serving on numerous committees and conducting tours. Carol is a Customer Service/Inside Sales Supervisor for Specialty Construction Brands. She is actively involved at First Presbyterian Church serving as an elder, Sunday school teacher, curriculum writer, children's choir accompanist and a member of the bell choir. She participates in the planning of the Annual Fashion Show and Promenade of Art events to benefit the Northwest Community Healthcare Foundation. Carol also serves on the Regional Alumni Board of Illinois Wesleyan. We welcome Carol back onto the Board after also having served previously as Society President. She finds the Museum a preservation of the past to present to children of all ages. Her goals coming back onto the Board include the recruitment of volunteers and new members and seeking what will make them more active with the Society.
 
Tom Hahn is a mechanical engineer and has lived in Arlington Heights for 49 years and actually grew up next door to the Frieburg family. He has been a volunteer at Frontier Days currently serving as the Festival co-chair and has served as a butler at the Museum's Banta House Teas. He serves as the Society's Vice President, on the Membership Committee, and is the Society's representative on the Museum Advisory Committee.
 
Tom Lozowski has lived in Arlington Heights for 8 years. He has over 30 years of sales and managerial experience and is a former federal credit union director. He was a volunteer for the Chicago Park District working in the Marquette Park rose garden and greenhouses as well as special projects at the Garfield Park Conservatory. Tom serves as chair of the Heritage Gallery committee. His objective is to help insure that today’s and tomorrow’s children have properly preserved artifacts and recorded cultural context to understand our history and heritage.
 
Megan Specht is a former resident of Arlington Heights having lived in Palatine for the last 9 years. She has worked in Arlington Heights for over 12 years as the former manager of customer service for the catalog division of Design Toscano and for the past 7 years as an agent with Picket Fence Realty. Megan has volunteered for various organizations and charities and is a member of the Palatine Jaycees, the Palatine Historical Society, the Arlington Heights and Palatine Chambers of Commerce, and the Professional Woman’s Council of the Arlington Chamber. She has been involved with the Society for the last 7 years having assisted with the Arlington Eve event and for 6 years has served as a house captain for the House Walk. She finds the history of our area fascinating and looks forward to learning more about our community’s past and celebrating its future. While serving on the Board she hopes to further the Society’s goals to preserve the historical integrity of Arlington Heights and to get more people interested and involved in its offerings.
 
Class of 2008
 
Helen Dawley has lived in Arlington Heights for 48 years, 46 of them at a home in Scarsdale. She was an Executive Secretary for a Bell System company until her son was born. When he entered Our Lady of the Wayside School, she volunteered in the office until he graduated. Since 1973 she has volunteered at Northwest Community Hospital having served on the Hospital Auxiliary Board, Stewardship Committee of the Foundation and the Fashion Show Committee. Helen’s interest in gardening saw her through many board positions with the Garden Club including President. She serves as co-captain for the Garden Club docents at the Historical Society House Walk. Ever since the Friends of the Library was organized, Helen has been on and off their board serving as Treasurer and President and currently as Newsletter Editor. She sorts books for the Friends and volunteers in the Graphics Department at the Library. She has run bridge groups for St. Viator’s High School, Our Lady of the Wayside and District 214 Faculty Wives Group. All of Helen’s volunteer efforts were recognized by the Special Events Commission’s Volunteer Heart of Gold Award. Helen became interested in the Historical Society as a Garden Club member caring for the grounds. She has helped at events, serves on the Membership Committee and is editor of the Society’s newsletter, The Dunton Post. Her interests are many and when she is asked to help, she sees no reason not to pitch in. She hopes to help the Society in any way she can because she feels we are fortunate to have such a great facility in Arlington Heights.
 
Kathy Hendricksen has been a resident of Arlington Heights for 30 years. She is a Vice President at The Care of Trees. Kathy has held several board positions for the Arlington Heights Garden Club and is involved with the Arlington Heights Junior Woman’s Club. Starting in 1998 she helped to get the Garden Club to take care of the Museum grounds and it has been a great success. She has been involved with the committees of Arlington Eve, Building and Grounds, Fundraising, House Walk, Publications and serves as the Membership Committee Chair. Kathy hopes to assist in building the Society’s financial reserves to fund capital improvements and to increase the awareness of the Museum throughout the community.
 
Phill Walter has lived in Arlington Heights for 37 years. He is President of M. Walter Roofing. Prior to his roofing career he performed research for 12 years at the University of Chicago and Penn State University. Phill has a Masters in Molecular Biology and taught biochemistry at Penn State. After recently running on the ballot for a Village of Arlington Heights Trustee, he enjoyed meeting people and talking with them. He would like to become more active in the community and selected the Society because of his love of history and his family’s background. His father is an avid Revolutionary and Civil War re-enactor and had assisted in appraising the Society’s collection. Phill serves on the Society’s Membership and Fundraising committees. He is interested in getting involved with promoting the Society’s activities to the community.
