Festival of the Wreaths

The successful Festival of the Wreaths returns to the Arlington Heights Historical Museum for a second event!
We were gratified by the community’s response with their wreath creations and donations,” said Betsy Kmiecik, of Arlington Heights, a former Arlington Heights Historical Society Board president, and chair of the Festival of the Wreaths Steering Committee. “Almost 80 beautiful wreaths were donated with fun themes,” she said. “All of the wreaths were bid on and sold. We raised over $5,000 in wreath sales, and we’re building on that success.” Proceeds from wreath donations are used to fund materials and supplies for Museum collections and exhibits.
Those who wish to create and donate a wreath for the event need to register their wreath by Friday, October 21. Completed wreaths can be delivered to the Museum Thursday, November 3 and Friday, November 4.
We’d really like to see more wreaths of all kinds, but especially from kids and their families,” said Kmiecik. “We’ve added a category called Calling All Kids and we’re promoting this in various outreach efforts.

2016 Festival of the Wreaths Schedule:

Thursday, November 3, 4-7pm and Friday, November 4, 10am-2pm: Deadline to deliver your finished wreath to the Arlington Heights Historical Museum.
Saturday, November 19: Festival of the Wreaths preview party by invitation only (includes wreath donors).
Tuesday, November 22 through Friday, November 25: Visit the museum to vote for the People’s Choice award.
Tuesday, November 22 through Sunday, December 4, 1:30-4:30pm daily: Public viewing and silent auction bidding at the Historical Museum. Winning bids will be announced Sunday afternoon, December 4. All proceeds support the museum’s collections and programs. Prizes will be awarded in several categories.

The goal of this event is to promote community engagement and awareness of the Arlington Heights Historical Society/Historical Museum and to raise funds for the Historical Society. Wreaths can be holiday-themed as well as non-holiday themed, sports–themed, fresh or artificial, and can incorporate coupons to a restaurant or business.

The 2nd Annual Festival of the Wreaths sponsored by the Arlington Heights Historical Society was a great success. We received wreaths submitted by individuals, community organizations, businesses and Village departments. During the Thanksgiving weekend many people visited the museum to view and bid on wreaths, listen to music and shop in our mini indoor farmers market. The proceeds from the wreath sales will support the museum collection and projects. We would like to thank all our sponsors, wreath submitters and wreath purchasers for their support of this event.
