Volunteering

MemorialDay2017

The Arlington Heights Historical Society and Museum is always looking for helping hands to join us in our quest to preserve history and present it to our community. Have some free time to help out? See below for a list of our current volunteer positions:

Tour Guides

Time Commitment: approximately 1 hour every few weeks at 2:30pm on Saturdays.

Have fun talking with others and sharing engaging stories? Our Tour Guide leads our visitors through the Museum campus educating them about the history and stories that surround the buildings that now make up the Arlington Heights Historical Museum. A tour guide manual and several training days are provided for new volunteers to become comfortable with this position.

Special Events

Time Commitment: a few hours every couple of months

Looking for a fun and free way to attend Museum events? Providing a few hours of your time to help our community events run smoothly gives you the opportunity to do good while still having a good time! The Society and Museum regularly need help with special events offered on the Museum Campus. Positions range from checking people in and handling tickets, to playing games and making crafts with visiting children to staffing houses to provide visitors an interesting experience. Most training is done the day of the event.

Farmer's Market

Time Commitment: 1-2 hours weekly on Saturdays between 7:30am and 1:30pm

The Arlington Heights Farmer's Market (run by the Arlington Heights Historical Society) needs homegrown volunteers just as much as they need homegrown fruits and veggies! Hands are needed to help with set up and clean up before and after the market as well as greeters during the market. Being able to lift and move is a plus in this role if you plan to help set up/tear down but greeters can sit/stand for long periods of time. Volunteers will be directed as to what needs to be done on a weekly basis.

Board Member

Time Commitment: varying responsibilities over a several year period. Must be able to make meetings every third Thursday of the month from 7-8:30pm at the Museum.

Want to make a difference in the future of the Museum and make a commitment to preserving the past? The Arlington Heights Historical Society is looking for engaged volunteer board members to serve as Museum allies and help promote the Museum's mission in the larger community. Responsibilities vary based on committee responsibilities, and Museum projects and events.
